During prenatal visits we'll go over your pregnancy and health history, discuss education about pregnancy, labor, child birth, natural pain techniques and the pain management options available at hospitals, breastfeeding and what to expect postpartum as well as help you develop your birth and postpartum plans. I am also available by phone or Email for any questions.
Having a baby should be a positive and empowering experience, so my main focus is to create a safe and comfortable environment whether you choose to birth in a hospital, birthing center or at home. I will stay with you throughout labor and delivery and for a couple hours postpartum to make sure you are comfortable and that breast/chestfeeding is going well.
Our job isn’t done once delivery is over. I will stay in close contact with you after your birth to provide any assistance you need through phone or email communication and provide postpartum visits to go over your birth story and allow you to process your birth as well as allow you to ask any questions you may have, provide resources in your community, and help with a household chore or two!
Welcome! I'm Liz (she/her). I live in Severn, Maryland with my husband, our 5 kids, and 4 cats. I enjoy spending lots of quality time with my family and friends, cooking, traveling to new places, going to concerts, reading, and hiking.
I am a trained birth and postpartum doula through DONA International. I felt the calling to be a doula after I became a mother. I have always had a special interest in all things pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding related. I believe modern mothers are severely lacking a village and I am striving to bring that back, one family at a time. I have a wealth of knowledge and wisdom I love to share with everyone and I am forever learning and growing in this career from different trainings and all of my clients and I love everything about it!
What is a birth doula?
The word 'doula' comes from ancient Greek and means "a woman who serves". Today a doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical and informational support to women/birthing people and their partners/families throughout their pregnancy, labor and birth, and early postpartum period.
I believe every mother/birthing person deserves a doula. If you are struggling to find ways to afford doula care, please reach out. I will work with you to find a solution. Every expecting family deserves respect, compassion, and someone to help advocate for themselves and their choices during the most vulnerable but also the most powerful moment of their lives. They deserve to feel EMPOWERED in childbirth and parenthood instead of fearful.
